Busy Bee

Well hello blog world! I've been so busy lately. As if I don't already have enough on my plate, I've decided to start up a little refinishing furniture business. A while back I was talking to the hubs about how much I love making hideous things beautiful. He has always been a supporter of my dreams (like how I refuse to quit teaching because I really HAVE to help those little cherubs) or simpler dreams like having to have an amaze balls nail polish collection. But he was a tad apprehensive about my latest dream so I showed him. I redid a side table, a desk and a coffee table. Took them up to a charming little nursery/shop in Fruit Heights and they sold in three days.

So now our garage is full of hideously beautiful garage sale finds waiting to get a second life!

What can I say? Just trying to make the world a more beautiful place one six year old reader and one beautiful piece of furniture at a time :)

Here are the completed projects over the last couple weeks. Im kinda bad at taking before pics but the ones that have two pics are before and afters I have finished a couple other things I didn't even take a picture of.

I also have my first legit client that I had never met before! The girl who owns the shop i have been consigning my pieces through referred him to me. He brought over a gorgeous dresser and I just finished it. I honestly didn't think it needed one thing changed but we wanted it more uniform. That's the last picture in the bunch.

Oh and happy mothers day! I will post baby k in his adorable shirt that he was wearing when he brought me breakfast in bed. Im pretty lucky.

Had To Say

Anyone who knows and loves me knows and loves that my singing voice is "sub par" at best. But I love to belt it out in the car, in the shower, getting ready and especially when I'm hanging out with baby K.

This post is to mark a very special day in mom and kingston world.

We had a full day of playing with friends at thanksgiving point's tulip festival and later seeing aunt Ally and Dan for a delicious dinner (it pays to marry a Latino.. Thank you Ally)...we were on our way home when Kingston lost his cool and wanted to cry instead of clap his hands or coo back to me as I talk to him like he understands. Usually in these rare instances I just grit my teeth and find my inner calm Meghan which lets be real, doesn't really exists but tonight I tried something different.

There is a song by My Brightest Diamond called I Have Never Loved Someone and i have been whisper singing it to Kingston since he was a little teeny baby. Tonight, to sooth his cries, I started singing this magical lullaby to him louder than I ever have before. He immediately stopped crying and in a span of one minute fell fast asleep.

I love being a mom. I love being Kingston's mom. I am so lucky.

So to all those haters and make funners of my singing (including that husband of mine): I don't care what you think. My baby loves my voice and that is all I need.

Sweet dreams!

Next Revamp

Here's my next project. Don't freak it's going to be gorgeous!!!

Ps found this thing at DI!

My armoire update!

Okay so I'm dabbling in the furniture refinishing biz. Mainly for myself but I've already gotten a couple clients :) thanks friends! I guess what got me interested is pinterest. I mean let's be real, it's fun to look and dream of that huge mansion you have to fill with all those amazing pins youve saved. Most the stuff I've loved has been shabby chic and I kept telling myself I could do that myself! So I'm here to say, I CAN!! I did it.

Now I forgot to take a picture of my jewelry armoire before priming it but here's an example.

Now here is the after. Primed painted stained and distressed. Thoughts?

Spring!

Well it's been a great day! Good week actually. Today my friend and i took the kids and went to a couple estate sales. Im oddly obsessed with finding good deals on anything and am in the market for some furniture to complete our guest room. One of my dreams is to buy old furniture and refinish it. I will be reupholstering a chair this year! Just you wait!

This past week was my last week teaching for three weeks! I will miss my kiddos and I have a long todo list of things to plan for school but I am so excited to be home with that adorbs baby of mine and play stay at home mom for a few weeks. The perks of being a teacher :)

We celebrated Jon's 27th birthday this week! Such an old man. He loved my present (custom golf shoes) and we went to a delicious dinner at Flemings steakhouse. He was oddly obsessed with nobody knowing it was his bday so we kind of kept it low key. It was nice and I just love that man.

Spring is here and although the past couple of days have been kinda rainy and chilly, this week should be sunny and warm! King and I will be frequenting the park and eating Popsicles.

Ally and Dans wedding is coming up soon too! My parents are coming out for a full week! I'm excited to have my family come and have a big enough place for them to stay :)

Life is just good.

Lazy Weekend

Please read the title to this post. I'm not even sure I can even remember what it feels like to be lazy. I wish sometimes that I could lay in bed for hours watching YouTube videos or gossip girl or heaven to betsy take a nap! Ha ha but there's not a lot of time for all of that.

This week was especially craze because I had parent teacher conferences meaning I have to be at school until 730pm after already being there all day! Now that we live in the burbs, I didnt get home until late! Needless to say, I deserve a lazy weekend. Thank you LDS General Conference for keeping me indoors for two days just me, my little family, and the couch. I'm lovin it.

Change

So we are finally moved into our condo! And it's finally looking normal. Paint counts as decoration right? Ha ha

It's been a crazy few days as real adulthood called our name in the form of if you want heat and hot water you have to have call the heat company to come turn it on. Ha ha. Just imagine me crouched outside in the dark using my phone as a flashlight to turn the valve on the heat meter on because Jon was at the jazz game. So needless to say when I overheard one of my first graders say they want to be grown up today I just laughed and my moms voice rang in my head when she would tell me that being grown up isn't that fun. Once again she was right. But we have heat! I'm such a grown up.

Also commuting to Salt Lake has been rough. I miss my ten minute ride and it's only been two days. The things we do for suburbia...

Well I would post pics but here's what you get...more to come later. Also found that hilarious baby pic online. Hope it makes you laugh!
